Setting the scene

In this stage students set the parameters for the partner school to work with. They can choose from a range of options provided.

Use this worksheet to inform your partner school about the main features for the film. Tick one box per category.

Overall storyline

Students from each school now determine the basic storyline of the film, based on the information provided by their partner school. From this, they will select one particular scene (up to 5 mins) to develop further in the following stages.

Storyboarding

In this stage, students create a storyboard for the scene they want to shoot. This includes: - a sketch of each shot - a written description of the scene and individual shots - a scripted version of dialogues The following storyboard template can be used:

Shooting the Scene

With the preparation of the previous stages, students can now move on to film the scene they have scripted, using a digital camera.

Promotion

To promote the film, students design a filmposter and write a 'blurb' for their production. This material is sent to the partner school.

The document below gives suggestions on how to structure the blurb-writing lesson.

For additional ideas, try the following link. The page gives information about structuring a blurb-writing lesson for books, but can easily be adapted for films.

Premiere!

Students share their final, edited production with the partner school.
