I have a proposal that would introduce our children to the language of
numbers, the alphabet and colours in their new language, through the use
of rhyme or rap.
The first week we could write poems in our own language that would
introduce our friends to numbers. The second week, we would learn the
poems that have been sent from our partner school. In week 3 use colours
as the basis for the raps, and in week 5, possibly the alphabet.
Perhaps your young children would prefer this?
My children would like to get to know your children, too. Each child can
write a little letter in English that introduces themselves and then I
could send it to you to give it to your children.
That way, they would get to know each other.
The thing is, I have 20 children ( 10 and 11 years old) and you got 30. I
can ask the teacher in the parallel class if he is interested too, or some
of your children have to "share" a letter. Would that be ok for you ?
looking forward, Karina
Hi Karina,
I will send you letters very soon. Some of my children can share your
ltters. That is fine.
I am happy if you want to send letters in German as long as they are VERY
simple. We can manage
Ich Heisse....
Ich bin ..jahres alt. Ich habe braun Haare und blau Augen.
Anything else would need to be in English!
Have you any more thoughts about the future project?
If you would like to look at fairy tales, perhaps we could use Powerpoint
to illustrate the different stories, so that we are not to tied to the
language?
Looking forward to meeting you in Munich!
Linda
Hi Karina,
I have sent you soem introductions from my class. I hope you will be able
to print them and give them to your children. We look forward to replies.
HI Linda,
thanks for the introductions. My kids wrote "real" letters and we want to send them to you. All kids send a picture of them with the letter. They wrote real nice letters, so I think it´s better so send them with the mail instead of e-mail, so your kids can get "real mail" from Germany :-)
Can you give me your school adress, and then I can send the letters
tomorrow or thursday.
Today I will look for some german rhymes with numbers, colours and the
alphabet, so you will get them soon.
Viele Grueße von Hemmingen, Karina
Hi Karina,
My children will be thrilled to receive letters through the mail. Our
address is
Ivy Lane School,
Chippenham,
Wiltshire
SN15 1HE
ENGLAND
If you think that the rhymes is a good idea, we will send some to you, but
also we will try and write our own. I'll try and start with numbers this
week. I am going to try and put a picture of our old schol building on our
project page, so you can see what it looks like. I will take more pictures
of our classroom later in the week.
Take care
Linda
Hi Karina,
Thank you for the rhymes. Do you know if they are usually sung or said? If
they are sung, do you have any way of letting me know the tune? I can read
music. Is there perhaps a web site where I can find the tune?
We have been working on our own rhymes today, but my children are trying to
illustrate them for your children. Hopefully it will make them easier to
understand.
Take care
Linda
Hi Linda,
yes, there is music to the Color song. I tryed several times to put it on
the site with the german materials, but it´s not working. I´ll try on.
The other rhymes are spoken rhymes like a rap.
I´ll send you some more rhymes.
Have a very nice weekend,
Karina
Hi Linda,
I was wondering if you are interested in changing some "easter"-materials,
that we can do with our classes. We could exchange some typical german and
typical english easter customs, so the kids can learn how you/we celebrate
easter.
Hope the letters will get to you soon, they are on their way to England:-)
Grüße aus Hemmingen,
Karina
Hi Karina,
Thank you for the letters that arrived today. We will read them tomorrow
and hopefully reply.
I am happy to exchange Easter ideas.
Do you think that we need to agree a title and goals for our project? I
think we will be asked to share that on Monday at the workshop.
Take care
Linda
P.S. I don't know if you have received this message more than once, but it
arrived in my mail box too.
Hi Karina,
Hope you are enjoying your Easter holidays. It was good to meet you in
Munich. It was very useful. We do not go back to school until April 11th.
My children were wondering if your children will reply to their letters.
Enjoy your break
Love Linda
Hi Karina,
Hope you had a good holiday. We talked about sharing traditional tales
next. How would you like to do this? We have tests in May which will take
a lot of time, so our time will be limited in the next few weeks. What do
you think is possible?
Linda
Hi Linda,
sorry that I didn´t write for so long, we started school a week earlier
than you, and there was just too much staff going on. And after having a
nice easter break school is always stressy :-)
Yes it was really nice to meet you in Munich, we had a good time, did we
:-)
I think, nobody topped our name-project, so far :-)
My students answered your letters during the easter break and I will send
them today, so you should get them to the end of the week.
Do you want me to send traditional german tales written in English or
German ? I can look, if I can find some written in English, that might be
easier for you ??
For me it would be helpful if the english tales are short and maybe with
some pictures. Then I can read the tale to the pupils and show them the
pictures, so that they can get the story.
I will look for the tales within the next days and then I will put them on
our page.
Take care and enjoy spring-time :-)
Karina
Hi Karina
Glad you had a good Easter.
We look forward to your letters.
I think that tales written in English would be better for us. I will try
and find some short easy English tales for you. Perhaps my kids can add
the pictures on powerpoint.
We'll see what we can do.
Take care.
Love Linda
Hi Karina
You will see in the English materials that I have added a poll. I may do it
with my class. How about you do the same with your class?
Just an idea.
Linda
I found a real great homepage and I put it in the folder with the german
materials. There you can read lot of traditional German tales, written by
the Grimm´s brothers. The good thing is, they are written in German and
in English and they got some nice pictures with it.
The poll is a gread idea. I will ask my pupils tomorrow and I will write
the answers.
Well, it´s almost weekend :-)
have a great day, Karina
Hi Karina,
I found the web page and will use it with the children this week.
We have had great fun re-writing English tales in a simple way so that your
children will be able to read them I hope they can. We've added pictures
to help. You will find them in the English materials under Traditional
tales.
Your letters have not arrived yet, but we look forward to them.
Take care,
Linda
Hi Karina,
The letters arrived at the end of last week. Thank you.
They are going to work on replies at home this week, so I'll send replies
some time next week.
Take care
Linda
